Jan will give basic meditation instruction on posture, breath, and attention. She will guide the clients into meditation using progressive relaxation, and focal point awareness, with special attention to the tension that is created by worry and fear attendant to activism.
The clients will sit in silent meditation for approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on the needs of the clients.
There will be time for discussion after meditation ends.
Two-Hour Group Meditation and Lecture
The two-hour class begins with a short mediation. Jan will help participants find their most comfortable posture, teach them how to work with their thoughts and their breath.
After the initial meditation, Jan will discuss various aspects of meditation and mindfulness and how this impacts an activist’s effectiveness in the field.
Participants will then be led into a longer meditation session, deepening the experience of maintaining control of awareness and relaxation.
After meditation, Jan will answer all questions.
This workshop can be held in one day with a break for a meal. It can also be held on separate days, depending on the needs of the participants.
In this intensive workshop, participants will learn how to relax deeply, focus their attention on their breath, and meditate for increasingly longer periods of time. Various mediation practices will be explored and implemented. Participants will be guided to work with the specific demands of social and political action on the thoughts and ability to focus.
Participants will be helped to design a daily meditation practice. They will learn how to navigate any challenges that arise as they sit and meditate.
