I was shocked today as I read of Maya Angelou's passing. She seemed ageless to me...as ageless as her words are timeless. She wrote of love and strength and God and giving back, and people listened to her. She was an African American woman born in 1926, and people listened to her. Some hung on every word.
There will never be another Maya Angelou for so many reasons. But maybe the most singular reason is that she was born under Jim Crow and endured it. She lived through the civil rights battles. Through all of that, she carried a great light in her heart and brought it to us from that darkness.
Though there will never be another Maya Angelou, she was generous enough and courageous enough to speak her own truth and to share her words with us...."trailing wisps of glory."
