In our culture people take good care of their bodies. People eat three times a day, bathe, brush their teeth. They exercise to maintain health and appearance. People dress well and adorn their bodies. They groom their hair. People ensure their vision is good and wear corrective lenses when needed.
But as a culture, we do not generally attend to the strength or training of our brain or our minds. Without regular exercise of the mind and attention, over time the mind becomes less able to handle stress, use will power, and maintain memory. Science now shows all of these benefits with mindfulness training through daily meditation.
When alert in the present moment people are able to attend to what is most needed in their lives. They are also able to clarify how they can best assist themselves to achieve their goals.
